The musician Taylor Swift is helping one student’s dreams come true. The 30-year-old singer has recently donated $30,681 to the GoFundMe page of a young girl that describes herself as ‘Black 18-year-old with a dream’. The young girl, Victoria Mario set up a GoFundMe page online to raise funds she needed to attend university to study Mathematics.
Her goal was to collect 40,000 euros that would pay for her accommodations, equipment, and the entire living cost but with the help of the musical sensation Taylor Swift, she hit her goal.
Taylor’s comment on the site:
Taylor Alison Swift is an American singer-songwriter who is also well-known for her generous heart. Her songwriting often revolves around her private life and has received quite some media attention due to it.
Yesterday, The Cardigan singer apparently came across Victoria’s profile on GoFundMe and donated a sum of almost $30,000. Taylor wrote in a comment on that site,
“Victoria, I came across your story online and am so inspired by your drive and dedication to turning your dreams into reality. I want to gift you the rest of your goal amount. Good luck with everything you do! Love, Taylor.”
Victoria Mario, the college student’s response:
Shortly after Taylor Swift commented about the donation, Victoria was astonished that her dreams are finally coming true and wrote,
“I JUST DON’T KNOW WHAT TO SAY OR EVEN HOW TO FEEL. GOD IS GOOOOOD”
The student further thanked Taylor for her generosity by writing,
“Of course I have to thank @taylorswift13 for donating more than 23k towards my campaign. I wouldn’t have reached my target so quickly if it wasn’t for you. May God bless you abundantly.”
Victoria also told that “I don’t think there are words to describe how I feel. I am just so overwhelmed, thankful, grateful, feel blessed- I don’t know too many feelings at the same time.”
Victoria’s backstory:
The young black girl, Victoria Mario immigrated to the United Kingdom 4 years ago from Portugal and due to ‘socio-economic barriers’, Victoria was unable to afford the college expenses. When she first moved here in 2016, she was ‘unable to utter a word in English’ but still, she was able to achieve top grades in her GCSEs exams which are usually taken by only students.
Victoria achieved the highest possible scores this summer and received a great offer to study Mathematics at the University of Warwick. She also shared on her GoFundMe profile that her father passed away and her mother still remains in Portugal and wrote about her financial struggles explaining that she was not eligible for loans or grants only because she doesn’t have a ‘Home status’ in the United Kingdoms.
Mario also told that she has emailed over 442 ‘top firms’ seeking financial assistance and also went to the wealthier neighborhoods in the UK and mailed them her true story but ‘was rejected or left without response’ before she started the fundraiser online.
Taylor Swift’s History of Donations:
The Grammy Award-winning singer, Taylor Swift has a great record of donating for the people and families in need in the past as well. She also once told me that she likes to donate to the causes that are ‘close to the heart’.
In 2018, October, the ‘look what you made me do’ singer gave 15,000 euros to a GoFundMe page that was raising money for the family of a mother who had been in a serious coma for the last three years.
Taylor also donated $5,000 to help a Toronto-based fan named Ayesha Khurram that needed financial support and Taylor’s donation helped her pay for her college tuition after Ayesha shared her story on Tumblr. The Grammy Award winner, Taylor donated $1 million dollars to the Middle Tennessee Emergency response back in March which supports the communities hit by tornadoes in the United States.
