Samuel L. Jackson is one of the most acclaimed actors in the Hollywood industry. He was born on 21 December 1948 at Washington DC. With more than 100 films in his career list; he is still winning the hearts of people.

Samuel Leroy Jackson was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee by his grandmother. His mother joined him when he was 10 as his father lived far from them and afterward died due to alcoholism. He only met his father twice in his life.  He studied in multiple schools and graduated from ‘Riverside High School’ in Chattanooga. He suffered from stammering in early childhood. In high school, he used to play French horn and trumpet in the school orchestra.

He was a film enthusiast and used to see movies at the local theatre and gained an insight into the complex narrative surrounding the black presence on screen. Band of Angels was edited for the black audience in Chattanooga, especially cutting the scene where Sidney Poitier slaps a white woman.

Initially, he was interested in getting a degree in marine biology from Morehouse College Atlanta, but later on, he chose to have a degree that will help him in pursuing his dream of becoming an actor. His experiences were part of him when he entered the historical Morehouse College and started to take a stand for the black-power movement. In 1969, he protested against the fact that there was no black board-member and then locked board members in the building for two days. That results in the immediate expulsion of Samuel L. Jackson from the college.

That same year, he got the chance to watch the performance of Negro Ensemble Company and make his passion for becoming an actor more firm. After spending two years in Los Angeles as a social worker, he returned to his previous college “Morehouse’ college and then graduated in 1972, and meanwhile, he also co-founded a theatre group named ‘Just Us Theatre.’

After he got graduated, Jackson joined hands with Black Image Theatre Company with La Tanya Richardson, whom he met at Spellman College, a branch of Morehouse School. They traveled throughout the country and performed skits composed of a vigorous combination of fierceness and humor in essence to white people. After starring in various plays including ‘The Three penny Opera’, ‘A Soldier’s Play’; he kick started his motion picture debut in “Together for Days’ in 1972. Four years later, he shared the screen in television series ‘Moving On.’

In 1976, he decided to discontinue politically influenced theatre work. Then, Jackson moved with Richardson to Harlem, New York City to pursue his acting career outside the confinement of race and ethnicity. He started to act in Off-Broadway productions that include Richard Wesley’s The Mighty Gents; that was based on Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage and Sam-Art Williams home. He also got the chance to substitute Bill Cosby during The Cosby Show rehearsals. In 1977, he played the role in the film ‘The Displaced Person’.

In 1981, when he was working on Charles Fuller’s A Soldier Play, he encountered two life-changing situations. First, he met Morgan Freeman who became a great friend of Jackson and pushed him to become a successful actor. And the other one, the New York University Film Student Spike Lee got impressed by his performances and urged him to work in his debut movies. Samuel fulfills his promise and starred in Lee’s early films as “School Daze’ and “Do the Right Thing’, releasing correspondingly in 1988 and 1989.

The Friendship really spiked Jackson’s career as it was his role as a drug-addict in Lee’s ‘Jungle Fever’ that received huge appraisal for the performance. The judges at the Cannes film festival even created a new category ‘Best Supporting actor’ to give the award to Samuel L. Jackson. He got New York Film critics award too, through the streak of playing drug-addicts on-screen; he then had to deal with his disastrous addiction to alcohol and drugs. The purging way of his performance enabled him to come out of his addiction.

He continued to appear in minor roles, as in movies such as ‘Good fellas’. From 1990 to 1993, he starred in films like  ‘Def by Temptation,’ ‘The Return of Super fly,’ ‘Strictly Business,’ ‘Jungle Fever,’ ‘Patriot Games,’ ‘True Romance,’ ‘Amos & Andrew,’ ‘Jurassic Park,’ and ‘Loaded Weapon 1.’ Even though he had some flop movies, his work was worthy of praise.

In 1994, Samuel was able to take his place as one of the prominent actors of Hollywood. He got the chance to play the golden role of his career in Quentin Tarantino’s cult classic movie, Pulp Fiction. Jackson plays the role of Jules Winnfield, a sermon spouting killer with igneous long speeches. He terrified the audience with his evasive performance, making him the center of a psychological thriller. He received an academy award nomination for his passionate performance in Pulp fiction.

In 1995, 1996- he starred in multiple flop movies as ‘‘Kiss of Death,’ ‘Losing Isaiah,’ and ‘The Great White Hype.’ But he hit the success streak again by appearing in blockbusters like ‘Die Hard with a Vengeance’ (1995) and ‘A Time to kill’ (1996, that made him the star again.
