Washington Redskins’ Staff Members Were Accused Of Sexual Harassment By 15 Female Employees, Reportedly:

Washington Redskins is a professional American football team that competes in the NFL as a member of NFC. The team is located in the Washington metropolitan area and has played over 1,000 games. The team was founded in 1932 by an American businessman, Geroge Preston Marshall, and won 5 NFL Championships since then.

The team started playing as Braves when it was first founded in 1932 and this is when they changed their name to Redskins. They moved to Washington, D.C., and have been playing from there since then.

TEAM’S STAFF MEMBERS ACCUSED OF HARASSMENT:

The famous and well-reputed team, Washington Redskins that have been known for their outstanding performance since 1932, was accused of alleged harassment by 15 former female workers and two journalists who had been working for the team and covering their events. They accused the staff member of the team of sexually harassing them and abusing them female workers verbally as well.

After the whole scandal, the team began an internal investigation to find out if the staff members were rightfully accused or not. But sure enough, after a thorough investigation, they received visual evidence of a screenshot that was sent by the team’s assistant director of pro personnel, Richard Mann ll, to a team’s female employee. It was first reported by The Washington Post newspaper, on Thursday. The SS had a number of unprofessional and inappropriate sexual messages. After finding out about it, the team officials fired Mann right away.

FORMER SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, LARRY MICHAEL ALSO ACCUSED OF HARASSMENT:

As per the former employee’s statement, the former senior president, Larry Michael was also a part of this shameful act of harassing the female employees. Reportedly, the former vice president also made some questionable and controversial statements about a female college intern in a video, recorded in 2018.

CNN tried to talk to Mann and Michael on the issue but they refused to cooperate. For now, no action has been taken against him as Michael has already retired from his position recently, this Wednesday.

TEAM’S OWNER AND PRESIDENT CALLED OUT FOR FOSTERING SUCH CULTURE:

After the accusations of harassment by the former female employees, the owner of the team, Dan Synder and president Bruce Allen, who were not reportedly accused of harassment by the employees but were called out by the news reporters and other people for nurturing a culture in which women are being harassed.

Later on, Redskins were interviewed by CNN, in which the team officials mentioned that they are working on solving this problem for which they have hired investigators and an attorney, Beth Wilkinson of Wilkinson Wash LLP. They also said that the investigation is being carried out so they can fire the people who are responsible to set an example for the incoming staff and to set high standards for the whole team for the future.

Redskins’ statement to the ‘Post’:

The team further said, The Washington Redskins football team takes issues of employee conduct seriously. … While we do not speak to specific employee situations publicly, when new allegations of conduct are brought forward that are contrary to these policies, we address them promptly,”. 

Beth Wilkinson, the attorney hired by the Redskins told CNN that she was put on the task by the team to conduct a thorough and fair report on the whole matter.

POST REPORTED:

The famous newspaper reported that they interviewed around 40 former and present employees and were strictly told that their names or personal information would not be disclosed to the public. 15 out of 40 employees accused the staff members of harassment.

REDSKINS FACING PRESSURE TO CHANGE ITS NAME:

Meanwhile, the team is undergoing a reputation crisis, they are being criticized on their name and are being called out by the people to change the team’s name as it sounds racist. The team is reportedly working on its new name but haven’t revealed it yet.

The team finally decided to change its name when they were continuously being pressured by their sponsors like FedEx, and famous brands like Nike and Amazon that removed Redskins’ merchandise from their online stores.
