The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, 39, has issued a firm message to the women of the United States to not sit on the sidelines but to make their voices heard by voting in the general elections. On Thursday, 20th August, The duchess joined the When All Women Vote couch party, a live-stream event encouraging all women to register ahead of November’s elections.
Meghan Markle joined and shared her important message at the beginning of a virtual voter registration party which was as a part of the Former First Lady of US, Michelle Obama’s’ “When We All Vote organization.”
Meghan addressed the viewers online:
The former Suits actress, Meghan Markle addressed all the viewers from her new home with Prince Harry in Montecito, Santa Barbara as she shared her views on the importance of taking part in democracy. The Duchess of Sussex told,
“When I think about voting and why this is so exceptionally important for all of us I would frame it as: We vote to honor those who came before us and to protect those who will come after us.”
“I think we’re only 75 days away from Election Day and that is so very close and yet there is so much work to be done in that amount of time because we all know what’s at stake this year.” Meghan went on to say.
The Duchess of Sussex requested all women to vote:
During the live-stream event, Meghan Markle also expressed her thoughts about how every woman should participate by voting in the Elections 2020 and how they should become more engaged and also urge their loved ones to do the same that expressed a sense of urgency.
The 39-year-old duchess further told that,
“We’re obviously faced with a lot of problems in the world right now- both in the physical world and the digital world- but we can and must do everything we can to ensure that all women have their voices heard.”
“Because at this juncture, if we aren’t part of the solution we are part of the problem. If you aren’t going out there and voting then you’re complicit. If you’re complacent, you’re complicit.’ Meghan told the women to turn to the virtual party.
19th amendment, the law that gave women a right to vote:
The live-streamed ‘couch party’ which was titled as ‘When All Women Vote’, the duchess of Sussex kicked off the virtual event, which was due to feature Obama senior advisor and When We All Vote board chair Valerie Jarrett, DJ Diamond Kuts, Glamour EIC Samantha Barry and the actress Yvette Nicole Brown.
The event was partly in the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment which gave women a right to vote in the Elections, however, it only applied to white women. Asian, Latinx, black, and Native American women were all still excluded from participating to vote.
Acknowledging the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment law, Meghan Markle told,
“Even today we are watching so many women in different communities who are marginalized still struggling to see that right come to fruition…it’s just simply not okay.”
“We look at the attempts of voter suppression and what that’s doing, it’s all the more reason we need each other.” The duchess said.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex is an American member of the Royal British family, a philanthropist, and a famous former actress best known for her role in the Hit American drama series ‘Suits’. In 2017, Meghan got engaged to Prince Harry and moved to London. The actress deleted all her related social media platforms and started undertaking public services after becoming a part of the Royal Family.
In January 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their intention of stepping back as the senior members of the British royals and moved to Southern California with their baby, Prince Archie.
Meghan Markle is a dedicated voting rights advocate and she even gave the commencement speech at her former High School on June 3rd and she took the opportunity to tell the rising seniors who are eligible to vote in November. The duchess encouraged the students to ‘use their voices’ and be ‘a part of the movement.’
“What is happening in our country and in our state and in our hometown LA has been absolutely devastating.” The LA native addressed the students referring to the protests after the tragic death of George Floyd.
“You are equipped, you are ready, and we need you, and you are prepared.’ She said.
Joe Biden accepted the Democratic nomination for President:
The When We All vote virtual event took place just hours before Joe Biden accepted the Democratic Nominations for President at last night’s Democratic Nomination for president.
The Duchess of Sussex was a surprise guest on Michelle Obama’s When All Women Vote live-stream event. After leaving the British Royal Family, the former actress has been very vocal about political issues including racism and voting.
Meghan described the American woman voting in the US Election as ‘a part of Legacy’.
She also added that “We can make a difference in the election and we will make the difference in this election.”
“I think it’s an exciting day because it is the countdown to the change that we would all like to see for the better of our country.”
