Chadwick Boseman, ‘Black Panther’ star died of cancer at 43: ‘Marvel’ family and other celebrity fans react

The 43 –year-old actor, Chadwick Boseman passed away due to cancer as the tragic news broke out on Friday. The Black Panther star was diagnosed with colon cancer 4 years ago but Boseman never made the news public. 

Chadwick Boseman was an American actor known for portraying many real-life historical figures and heroes. He first appeared on our screen back in 2003 in an episode of Third Watch but he had his first starring role in the film 42, where he portrayed the star, Jackie Robinson

The announcement of the tragic news:

The death of the Marvel star left everyone heartbroken. The news of his demise was confirmed in a statement that was shared on his social media accounts on the evening of Friday, 28th August. 

“It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman.” The statement read. “Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed with stage IV.’

“A true fighter, Chadwick preserved through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more, all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was an honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.” It continued.

According to the statement on his social media profiles, it was confirmed that the actor died at home, with his wife Taylor Simone Ledward and his family by his side. 

He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side. The family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time.”

The superstar joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as T’Challa, a superhero that Chadwick brought to life in Captain America: Civil War (2016). He was also starred in Black Panther (2018), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and the Avengers: Endgame (2019).

Back in 2018, the star got emotional talking about the impact the film ‘Black Panther’ had on his young fans, who were also fighting with terminal cancer and passed away before the film was released in a candid interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Throughout our filming, I was communicating with them, knowing that they were both terminals. What they and their parents said to me was, they were trying to hold on till this movie comes.to a certain degree, it’s a humbling experience because you’re like, this can’t mean that much to them. But seeing how the world has taken this on, I realize they anticipated something great.”

The American actor continued by saying, “Thinking back now to when I was a kid, waiting for Christmas to come, waiting for my birthday to come, waiting for a toy I was gonna get a chance to experience, or a video game, I did live life waiting for those moments. It put me back in the mind of being a kid and feeling those two boys’ anticipation of this movie….it means a lot.”

In Chadwick Boseman’s last social media post, he urged his fans to vote for Kamala Harris while celebrating her nom for the elections. Harris reacted to his demise new by tweeting, “Heartbroken. My friend and fellow Bison Chadwick Boseman were brilliant, kind, learned, and humble. He left too early but his life made a difference. Sending my sincere condolences to his family.” 

Joe Biden:

Former Vice President, Joe Biden also reacted to the news by saying, “The true power of @ChadwickBoseman was bigger than anything we saw on screen. From the Black Panther to Jackie Robinson, he inspired generations and showed them they can be anything they want—even superheroes. Jill and I are praying for his loved ones at this difficult time.”

Black Panther costar Mark Ruffalo paid his tributes by saying, “All I have to say is the tragedies amassing this year have only been made more profound by the loss of @chadwickboseman. What a man, and what an immense talent. Brother, you were one of the all-time greats and your greatness was only beginning. Lord, love ya. Rest in power, King.”

Kevin Feige, the Marvel’s head also released a heartfelt statement by writing, “Chadwick’s passing is absolutely devastating. He was our T’Challa, our Black Panther, and our dear friend. Each time he stepped on set, he radiated charisma and joy, and each time he appeared on screen, he created something truly indelible.” 

He continued, “He embodied a lot of amazing people in work, and nobody was better at bringing great men to life. He was as smart as and kind and powerful and strong as any person he portrayed. Now he takes his place alongside them as an icon for the ages.”

Halle Berry:

The Academy Award-winning actress, Halle Berry also paid tribute to the late star by writing, “Here’s to an incredible man with immeasurable talent, who leaned all the way into life regardless of his personal battle behind the scenes. May we take this as a reminder that you never truly know what the people around you might be going through- treat them with kindness and cherish every minute you have together. RIP.”
