The 27- year- an old rapper who is riding high on the worldwide charts sat down with the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden as she covers the September issue of Elle magazine. She interviewed 77-year-old Joe Biden via Zoom to discuss her biggest concerns ahead of the 2020 US elections.
Of course, critics will complain as Cardi B is not a journalist so why is she asking the questions? The ‘WAP’ singer/rapper seemed unable to believe that all this was real and happening as at the beginning of the virtual chat she accidentally said, “oh snap, is this real?”
Free Medicare:
The award-winning rapper started the interview by talking about free Medicare. She said,
“What I want is free Medicare. It’s important to have free healthcare because to look at what is happening right now.” She made this comment referring to the current pandemic situation.
Free College Education:
Cardi B also addressed the issue of free education for all. She said, “Of course, I think we need free college.”
Joe Biden replied to this statement by saying,
“If I get elected president, anybody with a family (that makes less) than $125,000, you’re going to get free education. And everybody gets free community college.”
Cardi talked about racial Inequality:
The ‘Bodak Yellow’ singer also addressed the serious issue of racial discrimination in the United States and how black people don’t get justice.
“I want black people to stop getting killed and no justice for it.” She told Joe.
“I’m tired of it. I’m sick of it. I just want laws that are fair to Black citizens and that are fair for cops too. If you kill somebody who doesn’t have a weapon on them, you go to jail. You know what? If I kill somebody, I’ve got to go to jail. You gotta go to jail, too. That’s what I want.”
Cardi B further explained in the interview that due to these racial strives in the country, some people don’t even feel like they’re a part of America.
She said, “I feel like Black people, we’re not asking for sympathy, we’re not asking for charity—we are just asking for equality. We are asking for fairness, and we are just asking for justice. That is all. I feel like everything people are asking for is getting interpreted in a very different way. No, it’s simple: We just want justice. We want to feel like Americans.”
The Rapper further talked about racism:
The American rapper became an internet personality after her several controversial posts and videos became popular on Vine and Instagram. The ‘WAP’ singer is also a mother to a 2-year-old daughter named Kulture.
She further talked about how ‘prejudice is dangerous’ and it could be the start of a civil war. Cardi told,
“It makes people feel comfortable around different people. Nobody wants to feel targeted. Nobody wants animosity. Everybody just wants the best for themselves, their future, their kid’s future. I don’t want to (have) to tell my kid, ‘you have to be careful going out to the store. Don’t wear a hoodie. Please don’t get stopped’ we don’t want that.”
“Racism has always existed.” She added.
“But I feel like right now, there’s just a lot of tension. And we need somebody to clean that up. I’m just so tired of it.”
Cardi B told how she is ‘tired’ of Donald Trump:
Another thing that Cardi B explained during the virtual interview is how she is tired of the current US President Donald Trump. She said,
“I just want to Trump out. His mouth gets us in trouble so much. I don’t want to be lied to—we’re dealing with a pandemic right now and I just want answers.”
“I want to know when this will be over. I want to go back to my job. But I don’t want someone to lie to me and tell me that it’s OK not to wear a mask, that everything is going to be OK. I want a president to tell me what the steps are for us to get better, to tell me ‘This is why it is taking so long, this is why other countries are doing better than ours’. Tell me the Truth, the hard-core truth.” Cardi B added.
Joe Biden wants the younger generation to vote on Election Day:
The former vice president responded to Cardi B’s concerns as the rapper continued questioning Biden. He told,
“We can pay for all of this doing practical things, like making sure that everybody has to pay their fair share. (For example) no corruption should pay less than 15 percent tax.” He answered Cardi B.
“In 2016, if 18 to 24-year-olds had voted in the same percentage as the rest of the population, there would have been 5.2 million more votes. We wouldn’t have (Trump), we would have had Hillary Clinton. The vote matters.”
“That’s why you keep talking to people about the need to vote. Your generation can own what happens in the next election. They can change things dramatically if they show up and vote.” Biden further added.
Biden called the younger generation ‘optimistic’
“You’re the smartest, the best educated, the least prejudiced, and the most engaged generation in history and you’re going to change things, I really mean it! I’m not trying to be nice.” Biden says to Cardi. He also congratulated Cardi B on landing the amazing cover of Elle magazine and thanked the rapper for her generosity in helping and dealing with people who are suffering from Covid-19.
