At the Facebook Marketing Summit, the company announced that the WhatsApp Messenger fom 2020 to display advertising in the app. So far, there is no advertising in WhatsApp, unlike other Facebook products.

As Meedia reported, citing persons who were present at the event, the advertisement should be displayed in the status messages. WhatsApp users can, like Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram, combine photos and videos throughout the day, after 24 hours they will be deleted.

The advertising is like the Instagram stories, which offer exactly the same function, are displayed between the individual contributions of the contacts and completely fill the screen. At Instagram, these postings are not always immediately recognizable as ads because they are often built like a typical story.

500 million users use status messages

According to Meedia 500 million of the 1.5 billion WhatsApp users to use the status function. Accordingly, there is a sales potential for Facebook here. In addition, ads in the status messages do not disturb the majority of WhatApp users because they do not use them. On the other hand, Facebook is likely to shy away from advertisements in the chat overview or in individual chats themselves, as users may be more annoyed at these.

Whatsapp introduced the status updates in early 2017, almost returning to its roots. Originally, users could share their status, the chat feature was added later.
